  • “This is not a fake. It is on loan from the NGV.”

The concept for this collection of ceramics tackles the notion of the artist as a fake and an unaware failure. Allman applies the Dunning-Kruger Effect, which states that ‘if you are stupid, you don’t know you are stupid, because you’re stupid.’ Here the Dunning-Kruger Effect is applied to the artist. ‘If you are a bad artist, you don’t know you are making bad art, because you’re a bad artist.”’

The text wraps around the vessels, reveal an embarrassing, self-deprecating vulnerability. The artist being so consumed with the outer world fails to reflect on the art produced. The vessels appear more insightful than their maker.

  • Ceramic artwork with fragile parts. This work is for indoor display only. Clean with a damp cloth.
