Symbiosis is a new collaboration by photographer Maki LeVine and painter Samantha Sederof. A series of new works by both artists, this exhibition pairs artworks that call attention to the often overlooked symbiotic relationship between humanity and the natural environment. LeVine and Sederof portray the fragile imbalance between humans and nature through their respective mediums, capturing the beauty and delicacy of shared forms and expressions.

Maki and Sam met while training as Art Therapists. Their practices are influenced by their ongoing involvement in the field and an ever expanding exploration of art and creativity as a tool to tap into personal reflection, connect with others and find joy.

An opening event will be held on the evening of Friday 16 February 2024.

Maki LeVine

Trained in Fine Art Photography and Art Therapy, Maki LeVine has an uncanny ability to interpret living form inside negative space. As a visual storyteller, her still images explore the connection and disconnection between humans and their natural habitats. With a foundation in human portraiture, Maki discovered her passion for photographing natural forms that mimic human expression in Yosemite National Park after loading an old canister of black and white film into her camera. Once printed, she noticed how the arch of a granite wall mimicked the sensual curves of the naked human body. Therein, she discovered her niche in fine art photography. Find more about Maki and her Photography/Art Therapy services via www.makilevine.com

Sam Sederof

Studying visual anthropology in Melbourne and fine art in Florence, Sam has contributed to numerous solo and group exhibitions. Exploring multiple media but always returning to paint, Sam draws inspiration from her cultural heritage, social environment and the natural world. In parallel with her painting practice, Sam operates as an independent accredited Art Therapist within the community mental health sector, providing art psychotherapy to improve participants' wellbeing through creative expression.
